The stories told in the book of Exodus are among the most foundational in the whole of the Bible. God’s rescue of his people from slavery is a model for every act of salvation and these events are continually reinterpreted to make sense of God’s actions. However, God’s interest is not merely in rescuing an oppressed group of people, but to bring them into a life-giving relationship that is part of his biggest plan to renew the whole world.
