This Anzac documentary delves into the aftermath of World War I and how memorials and honour boards served as symbols to remember the fallen soldiers. Filmed at locations around Brisbane and Ipswich, Gallipoli Barracks Enoggera, Anzac Shrine Galleries, RSL Memorial Building in Ipswich and the North Ipswich railway Workshops, the documentary features the stories of two Ipswich brothers Fredrick and Robert Litzow, who went to France in 1917-1918 with the 42nd Battalion. Fred was killed in action during the German Offensive of April 1918, and Robert, who survived the war, took part in some of the most ferocious fightings on the Western Front and was wounded and recommended for the Military Medal for his bravery.
The story concludes with tribute and respect paid to the lost generation and their unforgettable sacrifices that shaped history. Featuring Dr Mel Hampton, Historian from the Australian War Memorial, the boys’ story is moving, tragic and inspiring.
